The Ikemi Award

Sponsored by the Japanese Society of Psychosomatic Medicine


History

The Ikemi Award is presented by the Japanese Society of Psychosomatic Medicine to recognize outstanding studies in psychosomatic medicine that have been highly evaluated globally. It was instituted by the Society in 2002 to provide information to the world on the state of psychosomatic medicine in Japan. The award is named after the late Dr. Yujiro Ikemi, a professor emeritus and the first professor of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine of Kyushu University. Dr. Ikemi made considerable contributions to the development of psychosomatic medicine and psychosomatic internal medicine in Japan.

Eligibility Criteria

The first named author of all articles published between January 1st and December 31st in BioPsychoSocial Medicine, are automatically candidates for the award the following year. The winner will be presented the award at the annual meeting of the general assembly of the Japanese Society of Psychosomatic Medicine.

Nationality, membership in the Japanese association, age of the author, and if it is an original or review article are not factors in the selection of the winner.

Evaluation Criteria

In selecting the winner of the prize, the following criterion will be taken into account:

  • Information of value to the world
  • Expression of the bio-psycho-social model
  • Potential for citation,
  • Quality of the article
  • Originality
  • Expansibility and potential
  • Ethical suitability
  • Contribution to medicine and health care of the world:

We believe and are confident that the Ikemi Award is highly regarded as an internationally reputed prize in the field of psychosomatic medicine.
